According to Eastern mythology, the waterfalls located at China are the places where the Dragon Door is located. This association reminds us of the legend about a fish that jumped on the “mythical door of the dragon” and became this fantastical animal. This is an allegory of the impulse and the effort necessary to surpass any obstacle in order to achieve success. The dragon is the symbol of perseverance and wisdom. Within the Saint Seiya anime TV series, Shiryu – the Saint of Dragon – endures his warrior training near the waterfalls located at the Five Old Peaks.

Shiryu is one of the Athena’s Saint, a warrior with bronze armor. His names is derived from the word Draco, which is a constellation. He is represented by the temperament and benevolence from Eastern dragons: he acts like a thinking and reflective dragon warrior.

This saint was born on October 4th, 1972, in Japan. His techniques are called Rozan Sho Ryu Ha (Rising Dragon), Rozan Ryu Hi Sho, and Rozan Kou Ryu Ha. At the final battle with Hades, he gains a technique called Excalibur, defensive and offensive power inherited of Shura, Capricorn Saint.

Shiryu is less impulsive of the Bronze Saints, he is the most balanced and mature; it prefers to meditate with serenity before attacking the enemy. He has an extremely destructive power of attack and an excellent defense, thanks to his dragon shield. When Shiriu’s friends are in danger, his attacks can be fatal. He has a very strong friendship with the Bronze Saint, Seiya.

Shiryu trained for five years at the Five Old Peaks, in China, under the guidance of Dohko, a Golden Saint. He has affection for Shunrei – an orphan Dohko adopted – but it was never stated through the series if their relationship were filial or a romantic one.

The constellation that provides Shiryu his strength is called Draco - in Latin means dragon, and this set of stars are located at the North hemisphere. It is one of the 88 modern constellations and one of the 48 enumerated by Claudius Ptolemaeus (known in English as Ptolemy), a Greek astronomer that lived in the Hellenistic culture of Roman Egypt.
